BMJ Case Rep Published online: [please include Day Month Year] doi:10.1136/ bcr-2014-204442 DESCRIPTION A 24-year-old woman presented with a swollen right leg and a pulsatile lump in the popliteal fossa 3 days after a diagnostic knee arthroscopy. The CT arteriogram demonstrated a 6 cm pseudoaneurysm of the right popliteal artery (PA). There was early filling of the ipsilateral femoral vein with contrast medium, indicating an abnormal communication between the artery and the vein (figures 1 and 2). A volume rendered three-dimensional reconstruction of the axial images further helped to localise the exact site and size of the arteriovenous fistula (AVF) as demonstrated in video 1. The

[Vascular injury as a complication of knee arthroscopic surgery. Report of two cases and review of the literature].
BACKGROUND Arthroscopy of the knee is a surgical performed world-wide considered extremely safe, rates of complication ranging from 0.56 to 8.2%. Vascular complications are even more rare (0.0032%), and generally related to the popliteal artery injury. CLINICAL CASE We are reporting the cases of two patients who had unsuspected vascular complications after arthroscopy. Both cases presented va...
متن کاملPopliteal pseudoaneurysm and arteriovenous fistula after arthroscopic anterior and posterior cruciate ligament reconstruction: A case report
INTRODUCTION Vascular injuries are a well recognised but very rare complication of surgery or trauma around the knee, especially associated with arthroscopic anterior and posterior cruciate ligament reconstruction. PRESENTATION OF CASE This report describes a case of a Popliteal pseudoaneurysm and arteriovenous fistula after Arthroscopic anterior and Posterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction...
متن کاملTransarterial Embolization of an Inferior Genicular Artery Pseudoaneurysm with Arteriovenous Fistula after Arthroscopy
Arthroscopic meniscectomy of the knee is generally a safe and effective procedure with a low rate of vascular complications. We report here on a unique case of a 55-year-old man with a lateral inferior genicular artery pseudoaneurysm and a concomitant arteriovenous fistula that developed after arthroscopic meniscectomy; this was successfully treated with selective angiographic embolization. Thi...
متن کاملAn iatrogenic popliteal pseudoaneurysm masked under compartment syndrome of leg
This case describes a 60-year-old gentleman who presented with a pulsating mass behind his knee. Before this, he had a fasciotomy for suspected compartment syndrome of leg following knee arthroscopy, but this failed to resolve his leg symptoms. He was hemodynamically stable on presentation. His left calf was swollen with a circumference of 3 cm greater than right. There was a large pulsating ma...
متن کاملPseudoaneurysm with Arteriovenous Fistula after Arthroscopic Procedure: A Rare Complication of Arthroscopy
Pseudoaneurysm with arteriovenous fistula is a rare complication of arthroscopy, and can be diagnosed by ultrasonography, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, or angiography. This condition can be treated with open surgical repair or endovascular repair. We report our experience with the open surgical repair of a pseudoaneurysm with an arteriovenous fistula in a young male patient w...
